A novel by Chris Cutcher, Billy tries to help out his good friend Eddie. He tries to help Eddie put the pieces of his life together after  his friend has suffered a great loss. Eddie stops talking after the sudden death of his father and Billy is there for is best friend to make amends with his grief and begin to breath his life again.

Jonah and his younger brother, Simon are on their own. They set out to find what is left of their family, carrying between them ten dollars, backpack of dirty clothes, a notebook and stack of letters from their brother who is serving in Vietnam. And soon into their journey they have a ride with a man and a beautiful girl who may be in love with Jonah or Simon or both.
