 I chose to use piktochart because I found it to be very similar to Smore website. Just like smore it is user friendly and as i worked with it more and more I was very comfortable to change text, add and change pics and work with the icons. I kept it simple to avoid to much clutter. I tried easil.ly and right away I was turned off by so much on the site that I didn't know where to begin. Piktochart right away gave me tutorial and and as I clicked to edit, i was given brief guides to follow on editing. 

Facebook & Twitter

Social Media is the trend with "EVERYONE!!!" Everywhere you look, everywhere you go, people own a cellphone, people download apps, games, media, chat rooms, movies, etc. etc. Librarians have a good advantage to use social media to their benefit to promote library activities as I saw in one of the Facebook pages at Red Hook High School Library. A makerspace activity was being promoted on a Friday after school for duct tape crafting, beading, flower making and video editing. I suppose Facebook has its advantages given that the students have parental consent to be photographed and viewed on the internet. The page had no comments, however comments are not controlled by the individual who creates the page and some comments could be taken out of context or out of control when it comes to other people posting. Twitter has been sort of fun, just following and retweeting the posting. I have retrieved a long list of books to read from the twitter app. And have learned much from the professors on good book reads. It is interesting to know some professors include their workshops they will be having, for example Dr. Sheneman will be having a Discovery workshop on June 22, which I will be attending. For the most part, I have been following up on the American Association for School Librarians for updates on the latest books and companies that offer the latest on book purchasing.

Meyer, M. 2012. Cinder. New York: Macmillan.
A twisted unique tale that takes Cinderella into the future way ahead of our time. Cinder is a gifted mechanic that has a past with her step mother and step sisters. Very much similar to the folktale Cinderella,though mechanical Cinder has to fight for freedom and choose who to be to save her very existence in the future.





Maihack, M. 2014. Cleopatra in Space: Target practice. New York: Scholastic
Cleopatra is zapped into the future, she learns she is in a world of evil and needs to save the galaxy from the evil villain Laius Octavian. She must be the hero and still do her civil duty of being a student completing assignments for her classes.




Saenz, A. 2012. Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the Universe. New York, NY: Simon & Schuster.
A friendship between two boys that becomes more than just friends. Aristotle is a troubled child and so is Dante and they come together having nothing in common. They begin to spend much much time together and learn something about each other that will change their lives forever.

Angleberger, T. 2013. Jabba the puppet. 2013. New York, NY: Abrams 
Origami Yoa has used his jodi-wise advice to help the kids at McQuarrie Middle School conquer all sorts of enemies, from dull school dances to embarrassing water stains. The kids must face the deadliest enemy , The fun time education system. Meant to raise standardized scores and worse all electives of drama, art and band have been canceled.








Black, H. 2013. Doll Bones. New York: McElderry Books.
A newberry winner, Doll bones is a tale of friendship that involves friends who play and create in an imaginary world. As they enter middle school Zach is embarrassed and feels he does not want to be a part of the imaginary world because of his fathers comments about growing up. When then, Poppy brings up that she believes the old bone china has been
haunting her. A creepiness of excitement and friendship.




Stead, Rebecca. 2013. Liar & Spy. New York, NY: Yearling.
A 7th grade student named after a French painter, Georges Seurat by his parents. Georges' life becomes very complicated when he learns his dad has lost his job and they must move from their home into apartments. His mom has to take up to jobs and work pretty much all day. His mother becomes ill after contracting a very serious infection. Georges' problems arise even more with a bully in school. Through his complications he gathers up some friends being bullied as well and with this great courage he faces his fears.





Green, J. 2012. The fault in our stars. New York: Penguin Random House.
A young girl, Hazel, living life being diagnosed with cancer. Her world is nothing but being terminal and downfalls. She meets Augustus who simply brings her hope and love. She is fulfilled with life again and sees life in a different light now that she has a companion. A tearjerker novel dealing with death of a loved one.

Crutcher, C. 2005. The sledding hill. New York, NY: Greenwllow Press.
A novel by Chris Cutcher, Billy tries to help out his good friend Eddie. He tries to help Eddie put the pieces of his life together after  his friend has suffered a great loss. Eddie stops talking after the sudden death of his father and Billy is there for is best friend to make amends with his grief and begin to breath his life again.








King, A.S. 2015. I crawl through it. New York: Little Brown and Company.
A surreal fiction novel based on four teenagers in a situation that has them facing impossible situation in which they build an invisible helicopter to escape the reality of it all.








Smith, A. 2009. In the path of falling objects. NY: Feiwal and Friends.
Jonah and his younger brother, Simon are on their own. They set out to find what is left of their family, carrying between them ten dollars, backpack of dirty clothes, a notebook and stack of letters from their brother who is serving in Vietnam. And soon into their journey they have a ride with a man and a beautiful girl who may be in love with Jonah or Simon or both.

Harris, R. 2009. It's perfectly normal. Boston, MA: Candlewick Press.
An excellent resource for children, parents, educators and anyone who is concerned about young individuals and what their bodies are about. A book of accurate information to any and all possible questions wondering in each ones mind. A good read that offers anatomy education for the curious mind of a child and possibly adults.

      Ness, P. 2008. The knife of never letting go. Boston, MA: Candlewick Press Prentisstown isn't like other towns. Everyone can hear everyone else's thoughts in an overwhelming, never-ending stream of Noise. Quintero, I. 2014. Gabi: a girl in pieces. TX: Cinco Puntos. 

A narrative told in diaries, Gabi is a high school senior , a young girl who worries about weight and boys.  Gabi writes on the labeling and good and bad when it comes to sexual behavior. She describes herself being too heavy to be a beautiful girl. But as she responds to things happening to her and around her, she is filled with humor and witty and her voice is unapologetically fierce.

Sartrapi, M. 2014. Persepoli. NY: Pantheon.

An autobiograhical graphic novel, at the age of ten year old, her life story takes place during the Islamic Revolution. A memoir of constant repression, warfare and loss. She describes her daily home life compared to public life and describes the history of her country through black and white cartoon strips. 

Woodson, J. 2014. Brown girl dreaming. NY: Nancy Paulsen Books.    Raised in South Carolina and New York, Woodson always felt halfway home in each place. In poems she shares what it was like to grow up as na African American in the 1960s during the Civil Rights movement.

Newberry Honor Book, School is a difficult challenge when making friends, even more so when wearing a hearing aid. For Cece using a hearing aid gives her a powerful sound to hear things she may not be listening to. A story of wanting to fit in and finding a good friend

With the help of a good friend, George comes up with a plan to be in a play as Charlotte, a character he couldn't play because his teacher told him it was a girl's position.
